A rainy day fund?! Are you kidding me?

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — The Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland has given another $152,600 to the group that’s trying to overturn Maine’s gay marriage law.

A spokeswoman says the new contributions were transferred from a “rainy day” fund to the Stand for Marriage Maine political action committee.

That brings total Roman Catholic contributions to more than $550,000. That includes more than $180,000 from the Diocese of Portland, $141,300 from individual parishioners in Maine and $214,000 from other dioceses and bishops across the U.S. [Source]

A summary:

  1. The Diocese of Portland, under the auspices of Bishop Malone, has donated over $180,000 to a political action committee.
  2. The Diocese of Portland, under the auspices of Bishop Malone, ordered a diocese-wide “second collection” which raised $141,300 that was given to a political action committee.
  3. The Diocese of Portland, under the auspices of Bishop Malone, loaned diocesan staff to head a political action committee.
  4. The Diocese of Portland, under the auspices of Bishop Malone, dipped into its rainy day fund to donate an additional $152,600 to a political action committee.

On the Day of Judgment, will this Bishop be able to say that he did all he could to feed the hungry? Care for the sick? Clothe the naked? Shelter the homeless?

starvation

I dare you to look into his eyes and tell him that gay marriage was more important than feeding him. I dare you.

Pax et bonum.
